April 22, 2020
Dear Early Music Friends,
By now, we have all become accustomed to the “new normal” imposed on us by the Covid-19 worldwide pandemic. Many organizations have had to cancel conferences, concerts, conventions, and other social gatherings due to the spread of this unpredictable virus. While we have followed the news daily, hoping for signs that it would be safe to begin congregating again, with no end in sight we cannot anticipate what circumstances to expect in August. I am sure, then, that this announcement does not come as a surprise. Our first concern is the health and safety of our members, families, and friends.
Given this uncertainty, I must with sadness announce that both the HKSNA 2020 Annual Conference and the 2020 Jurow International Harpsichord Competition, scheduled for early August, are being postponed indefinitely.
While it is impossible to predict the future in these uncertain times, we are tentatively planning to reschedule the Conference and the Competition finals, in the same venues in St. Paul, Minnesota, sometime during the summer of 2021. We will be working diligently to make this happen, with the understanding that our plans are always dependent on the global pandemic situation.
Individuals who have already registered for the conference and paid registration fees will have those payments refunded. Individuals who have submitted proposals for mini-recitals, papers, and lecture-recitals and who have been invited to present at the Conference will be automatically invited to present at the re-scheduled Conference.
On behalf of our Board of Directors, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes. Obviously, no one is to blame for this situation, but this is, of course, the last course of action we’d hoped to take. I wish you good health and safe/happy music-making, and I hope you will be able to join us for our Annual Conference in 2021. Please check our website regularly for updates.
